Advantages of Drywall

The modern times true to the name have truly brought everything modern and technologically advanced at our disposal. Everything that we want is just a click away. But these modern times have brought with them the paucity of TIME. This shortage of time demands that everything should be done in a jiffy and should not be messy. Be it cooking or even the construction of a house, we want everything to be quick. So at this critical juncture drywall construction comes to our rescue. It is quick, easy and clutter-free. Drywall construction offers many benefits and gives reasons more than one for it to be an indispensable part of your home and office construction project.
The greatest use of drywall construction is that it’s not messy, construction time is five to eight times less than the conventional wet construction method. Heavy-duty pre-fabricated gypsum plaster boards are used as replacement for the traditional brick and mortar construction. It’s easy to erect structures using plaster boards. It saves both time and money. They help reduce the labour cost and offer flexibility in terms of design and structure too.
Drywall construction systems are excellent when it comes to insulation and fire resistance. Gypsum, the core compound used in drywall, has 21% crystalline water and 79% calcium sulphate. It is inert below 120 degree Celsius and in case of fire, it’s the crystalline water that evaporates first and this property makes gypsum fire resistant to a considerable temperature.
The constant improvement in drywall-systems has ensured that it meets to the latest specifications and can be used for acoustic insulation as well. By inserting rock wool between the boards, the insulation capacity of the drywall can be enhanced. STC or the Sound Transmission Capacity for drywall can be increased or decreased contrary to that of brick and mortar constructions. The brick and mortar walls offer an STC of 40 but the drywall can yield an STC as high as 63 by providing insulation between the plaster boards.
As opposed to the common belief drywall systems are able to support heavy fixtures like an LCD TV or wall mounted cabinets. For fixtures like mirror and wall hangings light and medium duty anchors can be used, just insert the screw and tighten with screw driver. There is no need for the hammer drills as in the case of brick and mortar walls with the added unpleasantness of the paint and cement flaking out. In the case of heavy fixtures homeowners can resort to expert help instead of taking the matters in their own hands.
Drywall is also lighter than the conventional brick and mortar structure. While building a skyscraper, the prime concern of the architects is to reduce the dead load on the edifice. This can be very well achieved by the dry wall systems without compromising on the strength and with the added advantage of fire-resistant, light, acoustically friendly and beautiful walls.
